Weather in Tampere and what to wear

The climate in Tampere is temperate, which means that the city experiences four, distinct season changes.  Although it can be visited throughout the year, the summer months are much more comfortable to visit during than the winter months. Tampere's winter months are harsh and bitter, with freezing temperatures both day and night. The summers are however thankfully much warmer and temperatures can even top 25°C / 77°F at times, particularly during the months of July and August.

During the summer months in Tampere, the sun will only set after midnight and it never gets completely dark.  Due to the plentiful sunny weather, long daylight hours and favourable climate, the summer season is always an excellent time to visit Tampere.

What to wear

Pack your t-shirts and shorts, but take along a pair of jeans or other long pantsand a shirt with long sleeves as well. A light jacket, an umbrella or a rain coat for rainy and windy days. Nothing too "woolly", you should keep on the lighter materials (cotton etc.). Good shoes and sandals are also a must.Maybe a baseball cap or some other light head gear - you can burn your neck or your forehead in the sun if it gets really hot, but we are not talking about tropical conditions here.

Swimming suit or trunks for the Finnish sauna. Sauna is not complete without a refreshing swim.

There aren't any dangerous animals in Finland, but the mosquitoes can sting, so you might want to bring a mosquito repellent of some kind.

The Global Market

The Global Market is one of the most important social events of the conference. It is a possibility to "break the ice” with food, drink and samples of different cultures from all over the world. At the same time, the Global Market is also the place to introduce everyone to the secrets of the “chaplaincy work” that is being done by you and your colleagues in the institution where you work. In other words, bring local, regional and national food and drink from your country, as well as posters, brochures, publications and anything else you would like to share with the conference participants. In order to prepare for this market, please get together with other participants from your region/country and decide together who brings what. We really appreciate your efforts to have as great a variety of food, drink and information available as possible.

NB: Regarding import quota and restrictions in Finland:

Finland is a member state of the European Union, so please observe the EU rules and regulations for import of alcoholic beverages and the like. If you are in doubt about anything else you would like to bring for the global market please check at:

(pages)/Customs_Regulations.

Dress code for the conference

The dress-code for the conference is fairly simple. For all conference sessions including the social activities the dress code is casual, except for one. For the final dinner on Thursday night the dress code will be formal. What does formal mean in Finland? Nice dresses or similar outfits for the ladies, jacket and tie for the gents. Of course national costumes will be more than welcome for the occasion as well.

Where to meet for registration:

The Conference will take place at the main campus area of the
University of Tampere (address: Kalevantie 4, 33100 Tampere).
The
Conference programme with all other necessary documents will be given
to you at the registration desk, in the main entrance hall of the university.

The desk will be open for registration on the opening day of the conference,
Monday 30 June, at 10.00-20.00, on Tuesday 1 July, at 8.00-16.30. If
